“Can I Be Gay & Catholic?”: One Woman’s Powerful Advice for Catholics With Same-Sex Attraction

This is such beautiful advice!

Gay simply means:- of, relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward people of one's own sex or gender.

Zember’s ministry focuses on helping people struggling with same-sex attraction and “know they are not alone.”

“When people ask Kim Zember the question, “How can I be gay and Catholic?” she responds with the question, ‘Why is ‘gay’ coming before your Christian identity?’

“Through her ministry, Overcome, Kim helps people with same-sex attraction overcome those desires and know they’re not alone. Central to overcoming that desire is denying ourselves, as Christ said:

“‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’ (Matthew 16:24).

“Kim knows what it’s like to have homosexual desires, and encourages those who have any kind of disordered sexual desire to go to Jesus and say, ‘Lord I surrender this desire to you.’

“As St. Paul writes to the Corinthians:

“‘We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

“Sinful thoughts are not sins until they lead to your giving into them, she says. What usually causes us to give in to them are their lies and false promises. Sinful sexual desires lie to us by saying they will make us happy, but giving into them never gives a lasting joy.

“Kim suggests trying some things that will give us lasting joy, like Mass, community, authenticity, confession, and adoration (time in silence with God).

“If you are struggling with disordered sexual desires, God is calling you to something more. He has called you to be fully alive. Do not identify yourself as your desires. Let God give you your identity.”
