THE BIODEGRADABLE BURIALPOD THAT TURNS YOUR BODY INTO A TREE

According to CNN, an organic burial pod is a biodegradable burial pod that a dead body goes inside of; the pod then works with nature to turn the decaying body into a tree.

Imagine that when you died you didn’t get buried in a coffin six feet under the ground. Instead, you opted for natural burial and your body serves to nourish the soil around you. And in that very same spot, a young tree is planted and begins to flourish and grow.A future like that isn’t too far off. Two Italian designers launched a project called Capsula Mundi or “burial pods” which seeks to change the way you think about and interact with the concept of death.
Here’s how it works: The biodegradable plastic shell is buried with a body or ashes inside of it. Once buried, it breaks down; the remains inside give the surrounding soil nutrients, and a sapling planted above the body begins to take root.
Capsula Mundi is a cultural and broad-based project, which envisions a different approach to the way we think about death. It's an egg-shaped pod, an ancient and perfect form, made of biodegradable material, where our departed loved ones are placed for burial. Ashes will be held in small egg-shaped biodegradable urns while bodies will be laid down in a fetal position in larger pods.
The Capsula will then be buried as a seed in the earth. A tree, chosen in life by the deceased, will be planted on top of it and serve as a memorial for the departed and as a legacy for posterity and the future of our planet. Family and friends will continue to care for the tree as it grows. Cemeteries will acquire a new look and, instead of the cold grey landscape we see today, they will grow into vibrant woodlands.
